Monday Morning Motivation

Mondays! They get such a negative rep. I for one, get so excited about them that I do not sleep very well on Sunday nights. I think that I stress myself out with all the things that I would like to accomplish. I love to counter act this stress with a plan to prepare for Mondays!

As soon as that alarm goes off... it is go time!! Every minute counts.

Here are some tips that I have learned to help mornings run a little smoother. I hope these help kick off your day to a great start to get you one step closer to those dreams.

1. Make a short term goal- Set a goal for just this week! Example- run 3 times this week, strength train 2 times a week, eat vegetables at every meal, etc.
2. Write this goal down- It is so important to write the goal down so you can see it. Keep this as your screensaver on your phone or in a place that you look at often. The mind actually visualizes it and can remember it to help motivate you to achieve this goal.
3. Prepare your workout- wether you are following a workout plan or creating your own, have a plan when and what your workout is going to consist of. I am a huge believer on visualization and you can even walk through your workout to help prepare the body for the training.
4. Prepare your meals- meal prep can be a battle. I know it is exhausting spending hours in the kitchen but I promise you, it pays off! I even look the night before what I am going to make for dinner so I know what to expect and how long dinner is going to take.
5. Lay out your gym clothes & get your water bottle ready- gather your clothes the night before. This can actually relive any stress and help you feel more prepared for the workout. Mornings can be hectic and every minute counts. Being prepared helps take that stress away and it might even help you sleep better!
6. Get your pre and post workout snacks ready- Gathering your snacks last minute can lead to poor choices. It is said that you need about 100 grams of carbohydrates before a workout. Try to get that protein in your body 30 minutes after a workout.
7. Plan what you are going to have for breakfast- This can help mornings run so much smoother and help you choose healthier options!
8. Set that alarm clock- Be prepared to want to sleep in! Every morning I wake up and I literally think of an excuse to tell my boss so I will be late for work. Then my brain starts waking up and think uhhh.. better not. haha! My least favorite sounds is the alarm clock. Be prepared to fight against that urge to sleep in.

I love the quote... Every morning you have two choices: continue to sleep with your dreams or wake up and chase them.

I hope you all have a great week and let me know if these tips help you!

Happy running,
Kylie

Strength Training vs Cardio Junkies Debate

As I was pounding away some miles on the boring treadmill, I was thinking. I don’t know about you, but it feels like the fitness world is becoming more and more divided. I get that in life we have different talents and passions. But I feel like there is a war waging and it is getting intense out there. It is a war against weight lifting verses cardio junkies. I feel like these two worlds are growing farther and farther apart. I have a lot of visions, hopes and dreams. One of my aspirations is to merge these two divided groups. I have done a little self-research and I think that it is so interesting the feelings between these two groups. I was talking to some body builders and they pretty much talked about cardio like it was a disease and how they didn’t want anything to do with it. They often expressed their feelings as though people were just wasting their time on those cardio machines. As I talked to some people who only believe in cardio, who said they can go a whole year without ...

Supplements

Supplements.... Supplements... Where to begin! The fitness industry can be a very messy, intimidating and contain a lot of misleading information. Supplements are a huge money maker for companies because everyone is looking for that "magical pill" to make them fit into those high school jeans. If you know me, I am a very naturalist person but I also do take supplements. I love to find very natural supplements and limit my caffeine intake. **Disclosure- I am not paid to represent any of these products. They are all just products that I like and recommend to everyone in the fitness world. My schedule: Wake up at 4:30 AM- Take my pre-workout from WM Nutrition & L-Carnitine from Ideal Fit During my workout- sip on Ideal Fit's BCAAs & WM nutrition Hydrenengery After my workout- IdealFit Protein Powder At breakfast- Glucosamine and daily multi-vitamin Here are what they look like and links to where you can buy them: Pre workout- WM Nutrition WM Nutrit...

St. George Half Ironman Recap

My first ever Half Ironman! Completing a Half Ironman has always been on my bucket list. I have always loved to run, picked up biking in college for cross training and then my plan was to suffer through the swim. I wanted to do Boulder in August but I wan to really focus on training for Chicago and so I picked St. George. I had heard this course was a beast of its own. I was ready. I like hills. My Training: I followed a 16 week training program that I bought from a coach. It truly was amazing! I felt awesome on race day and I attribute it to what great plan she wrote. My average training looked something like this: Monday: Run 30-45 minutes, swim 1500-2000 yards and incorporating drills and speed Tuesday: Bike or Bike + Brick Run + Strength training for hips and core Wednesday: Run 30-45 minutes, swim 1500-2000 yards and incorporating drills and speed Thursday: Yoga + foam rolling and stretching Friday: long bike + Brick run Saturday: long run (1:30- 2 Hour) + endurance s...
